Brantley T. Douglas III
Director of Athletic Bands

      Brantley T. Douglas III is currently an Associate Professor of Music and the
Director of Athletic Bands at Christopher Newport University in Newport
News, Virginia. His responsibilities include directing the first marching band
at CNU, the Marching Captains. He also directs the University Band, the
CNU Pep Band, Discovery Winter Guard, CNU Drumline, and teaches courses in music education.
      He earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-
Madison where he participated in every major ensemble as a trombonist or tubist. He also
worked as the Field Director for the Capitol Aires All Girl Drum and Bugle Corps. His
first public school teaching position was in Glendale , Wisconsin , where he was the
Director of the Glen Hills Middle School Band. He then moved to the Mequon-
Thiensville School District in Wisconsin to teach at both the middle and high school
levels where he served as Director of Bands at Homestead High School directing the
Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and Color Guard. While at
Homestead , he was also involved in private music instruction and the Lake Band , a
community youth band located in Milwaukee , Wisconsin where he organized a
competitive Winter Guard program and was awarded Most Improved Color Guard in
1988 by the Midwest Color Guard Circuit.
      His graduate studies were completed at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor ,
Michigan , where he earned his Masters and Specialist degrees in Music Education and
was on the staff of The Michigan Marching Band. He also developed his skills in music
technology and assisted and taught workshops on that topic.
      He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa
Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, Pi Kappa Lambda, the College Band Directors National Association, the Music
Educators National Conference, and the Technology Institute for Musicians. He is active
as an adjudicator of marching units and concert ensembles throughout the United States
and has served as the Marching Band Coordinator and Chief Judge for America 's
Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit , Michigan . Mr. Douglas is also a clinician for
Pygraphics of Grapevine, Texas , where he serves as a technology consultant.
