Amy Shimbo Doherty
Director of Theory and Composition
Ms. Doherty earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Harvard
University, the Master of Arts degree in music theory from the
University of Washington, and the Master of Philosophy degree in music
theory from Yale University, where she is also working on her Ph.D. in
music theory. Her work focuses on symmetrical structures in the music of
the Italian twentieth-century composer Luigi Dallapiccola. She is also
active as a singer and performs regularly with the Virginia Chorale,
Virginia's only fully professional choir, and Ensemble al Verso, a vocal
trio specializing in early and contemporary music. Ms. Doherty is
Director of Theory/Composition and teaches theory courses at CNU.
