2009 Marching Captains Audition Information

There are positions available in all sections of the marching band, including brass, woodwind, percussion, and color guard. To become a member of the 2009 edition of the Marching Captains, you must audition during Setting Sail. Be sure to add MUSC 112 to your schedule when you register for classes. Membership in the Marching Captains will also fulfill the Creative Expressions requirment in the Areas of Inquiry. There will be a short meeting for parents and students on Day 2 at noon in the Ferguson Center for the Arts to answer questions about the Marching Captains followed by the audition.

The audition will consist of major scales, sight reading, and a musical selection of your choice for the woodwinds, brass, and mallet percussion.

Mellophones, baritones, sousaphones, and percussion instruments will be provided for the auditions. Brass auditioners needing these instruments should supply their own mouthpieces and percussionists should bring their own sticks and mallets if possible.

Percussionist interested in snare, tenor, bass drum or cymbals will need to prepare the music that can be printed from the links below, in addition to playing the standard rudiments and various rolls.

Color guard members will need to show a previous learned routine and be prepared to learn a new routine on flag. Skills on rifle or saber may be demonstrated but not required. Band camp will begin on August 16th.
